The Oxys Association

The Oxys Association is open to family offices with assets in excess of $250 million for a nominal administration fee, and is free to charitable foundations.

History of Oxys

Over the course of 20 years, starting in 1988 with $40 million of seed capital from the subsidiary of a global insurance company, the two principals of Oxys built an $80 billion investment fund. The investment philosophy of the fund was based on the principle of determining private market valuations for publicly traded securities.

In 2008, the principals started a second investment firm focused on special situations, constructive activism and a private equity approach to public markets.

In 2020, as our longest standing client celebrated their 33rd year invested in our two funds, we announced our retirement in 2021. Our clients hosted an emotional farewell dinner for us, and we promised we would not be back except...

In 2023, a friend asked us to look into a non-profit initiative where he was contemplating a sizeable donation and joining the board. The due diligence and research turned out to be similar to the kind of due diligence that we had been doing for our entire professional lives. We had a favorable impact on the outcome and we enjoyed the unpaid work. The seed of an idea was sown. We further observed that we had a cadre of former colleagues, research analysts, experts and friends who were economically at ease, did not need to work another day in their lives, but were interested in doing "good work" and taking on "challenging projects"

The youngest member of the Oxys team (aka the "kid") is 57 years old. The average is 66 years. We will not win any foot races but we do bring a lot of experience and a wealth of connections to bear. We are sponsored by four family offices (three external and our own). We get to choose our own projects. Some are brought to us by a client. Some are ideas of our own which we share with members of the Oxys Association. I have promised the retirees of the Pan Am Pilots Association that this really is my last gig. Justin Scott
